Selank is a synthetic peptide neuropeptide with a seven amino acids long chain, derived from a naturally occurring peptide in the body known as tuftsin. Tuftsin is known to aid in the immune system as well as in the brain. It is thought that Selank works by affecting the amount of enkephalin in the brain, which has a direct effect on anxiety. Selank has pronounced anxiolytic activity which has been shown to decrease symptoms of depression, aggression and stress. Selank has a nootropic action, which positively influences memory and learning. Selank has similar properties to the physiological effects of benzodiazepines without the withdrawal, dependence, and amnesia effects. Numerous clinical studies have shown that Selank has strong antianxiety and neuroprotective effects in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorders.
