Semaglutide is a weekly injection that can be prescribed to help suppress your appetite and help you feel fuller longer. It can help you to eat less food and decrease unhealthy snacking by working on the centers in the brain that help to slow down how fast food leaves your stomach. Semaglutide is part of a medication class called GLP-1 receptor agonists that targets one hunger hormone. Semaglutide increases insulin secretion. In lower doses it is FDA approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes (branded as Ozempic). In higher doses semaglutide acts on centers of the brain and suppresses appetite for weight loss (branded as Wegovy).
